Lore: Ulaanbaatar Legislation Signatoriate

The ULS are a loose coalition of autonomous powers, spread across Asia, Oceania, and the Pacific. Signed member-states sacrifice little in the way of sovereignty, with the bloc acting largely in the capacity of a military, scientific, and economic alliance. The ULS was formed when the regional UN headquarters in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia - untouched by nuclear fire and cut off from the rest of the world - was able to contact the remnants of a number of Russian and Chinese regional governments and negotiated a series of emergency peace treaties and defensive pacts collectively known as the 'Ulaanbaatar Legislation'. The former UN headquarters went on to become the ULS Assembly; the home of the Signatories' supergovernment, and as the bloc grew larger, it was exponentially able to contact and sign more factions to the ever-growing alliance.

The Assembly contains representatives of each member-state, proportional to population - the majority of whom represent the factions in the former areas of Russia and China. The largest single member by population, is the State of Yangtze Jiang. Representatives are able to perform their legislative duties through telecommunications, though many prefer to reside in Ulaanbaatar to adopt a more direct role. Corruption is a constant reality within the system, with representatives either driven to self-preservation from decades of fighting to survive, or made soft from living in the relative comfort of the city, being pliable to offers of money, power or station in exchange for favours.

On the battlefield, the ULS fields Youxia; the world's first class of Combat Frame to have been created and fielded. With a distinctive rounded aesthetic and digitigrade-type legs, Youxia are mass-production Frames designed firstly to be durable, reliable, simple to maintain, and cheap to manufacture. A unique Youxia feature is the distinctive head-mounted cyclopean sensor pod, which can open up to provide a uniquely high-resolution three-dimensional video input. Along with chemical-kinetic rifles and machine guns, Youxia make heavy use of incendiary weapons containing their unique chemical fuel known infamously as 'Siberian Flame'. This substance's blue-white flames burn hotter and are significantly harder to extinguish than thermite. Vibroblades are used for close encounters; tungsten-carbide edged weapons excited at a precise exponential of their material resonant frequency, providing a pseudo-sawing effect that vastly multiplies the edge's shearing force, rendering it effective against even heavy armour.
