AI Art Disclaimer

Yeah thats AI art. A lot of the stuff on the wiki is generated via stability.ai and kling AI. See below for context.

Basically:

  • If/when the project is ever available in a commercial or pseudo-commercial context (including accepting donations) I will have replaced any and all generated assets featured in any published (online or actual-published) material. The AI art I'm using on this wiki is 100% placeholder. I have no intention to sell AI-generated images as part of anything for-profit nor do I want them in the final product because they're kinda ugly.
  • I wouldn't use AI art anywhere I wouldn't otherwise be using unattributed google image search results (with or without crude photoshopping). I consider the two things to be roughly equivalent ethically, with AI having the advantage of being able to more closely match the intended aesthetic and vision I'm trying to convey in a single image. This is not a situation in which a hypothetical artist has been put out of a job, nor is it a situation where image IP rights would have otherwise been of paramount importance.
  • For what it's worth, I don't think AI art looks particularly good. I am painfully aware of its tendency to gravitate toward an uninspired median in style, pose and character design. I am not using it because it's visually impressive, I'm using it because it allows me to fairly quickly and efficiently convey the images I have in my head without having to post an entire moodboard of image search results, or attempts at photobashing or art that would, in all cases, take significantly more time for a result that would be significantly less visually appealing.

I'd like to be clear that I'm not a weird AI cultist; I'm using image generation as a tool, with a mind towards the ethics and efficacy therein. This is a stopgap measure allowing me to quickly make images that communicate visuals while I feel things out and settle on them. I'm aware of ways in which image generation is used to effects both unethical and tacky, but I think to blame that on the tool itself is kinda stupid. The bottom line for me is; if AI were not used, what would otherwise have been used? If the answer is a human artist then I think there's probably a case to be made for it being, at a minimum, tacky. If the answer is images grabbed off google images without attribution, I consider that to be an equivalent.
